Grooming 101: How Often Should You Bathe Your Dog?

Bathing too often can dry out your dog's skin. Bathing too rarely can lead to odor, matting, and skin issues. So what's the right balance?
As a general rule, most dogs benefit from a bath every 4–6 weeks. But coat type matters: short-haired breeds can stretch longer, while doodles and double-coated breeds may need more frequent attention.
Active dogs who love mud puddles and beach days will obviously need more baths. Just be sure to use a dog-specific shampoo — human products disrupt their skin's pH balance.
Brushing between baths is just as important. Regular brushing distributes natural oils, prevents mats, and keeps shedding under control.
